چکیده

Environmental niche modelling and associated species distribution models often ignore intraspecific ecological differentiation linked with ploidal differentiation, i.e. the occurrence of several cytotypes same species. Here we tested hypotheses that (i) tetraploid (4x) cytotype is characterized by a broader than diploid (2x), (ii) at regional scale can serve as proxy measure for smaller landscape in Urtica dioica, perennial herbaceous plant two prevailing (2x 4x). We focused on southern Moravia (Czech Republic), an area high diversity vegetation types both U. dioica. To explore geographical distribution, preferences habitat affinities plants, collected individuals different spatial scales: (~1200 km2) (9.1 km2). used flow cytometry to determine ploidy level all plants determined space. also compared plants. Analyses revealed 93 diploids 325 tetraploids (regional scale: 42 diploids, 85 tetraploids; 51 240 tetraploids). Diploid occurred only wetter parts this pattern was very similar scales. In contrast, along whole moisture gradient Diploids differed their affinities. While relatively more frequently alluvial wet forests, managed broadleaved meadows, wetlands riverbanks, preferred oak oak-hornbeam ravine actively human settlements vineyards. Our data clearly show between have broad tolerance consequently wide occur narrow range conditions restricted areas shallow water table bottoms valleys. Thus, confirmed many species, should be included environmental models.

Whole-genome duplication increases tumor cell sensitivity to MPS1 inhibition

Several lines of evidence indicate that whole-genome duplication resulting in tetraploidy facilitates carcinogenesis by providing an intermediate and metastable state more prone to generate oncogenic aneuploidy. Here, we report a novel strategy to preferentially kill tetraploid cells based on the abrogation of the spindle assembly checkpoint (SAC) via the targeting of TTK protein kinase (better...

Niche breadth predicts geographical range size: a general ecological pattern.

The range of resources that a species uses (i.e. its niche breadth) might determine the geographical area it can occupy, but consensus on whether a niche breadth-range size relationship generally exists among species has been slow to emerge. The validity of this hypothesis is a key question in ecology in that it proposes a mechanism for commonness and rarity, and if true, may help predict speci...

Origin of the Yeast Whole-Genome Duplication

Whole-genome duplications (WGDs) are rare evolutionary events with profound consequences. They double an organism's genetic content, immediately creating a reproductive barrier between it and its ancestors and providing raw material for the divergence of gene functions between paralogs. Almost all eukaryotic genome sequences bear evidence of ancient WGDs, but the causes of these events and the ...

Hepatoprotective potential of antioxidant potent fraction from Urtica dioica Linn. (whole plant) in CCl4 challenged rats

The aim of the present study was to isolate hepatoprotective component from Urtica dioica Linn. (whole plant) against CCl4-induced hepatotoxicity in-vitro (HepG2 cells) and in-vivo (rats) model. Antioxidant activity of hydro alcoholic extract and its fractions petroleum ether fraction (PEF), ethyl acetate fraction (EAF), n-butanol fraction (NBF) and aqueous fraction (AF) were determined by DPPH...

Exploring the Urtica dioica Leaves Hemostatic and Wound-Healing Potential

The present paper investigated the efficiency of Urtica dioica (U. dioica) on hemostatic and wound healing activities. U. dioica leaf extracts were evaluated for their antibacterial and antioxidant effects as well as their flavonoid and polyphenol content. The hydroethanolic extract (EtOH-H2OE), showing the most potent antibacterial and antioxidant activities in vitro, thanks to its flavonoid a...
